To honor your spouse is a commitment you made at the altar through all the highs and lows, death... sickness... rich... poor... etc. It was not conditional on if they acted a certain way that day week or month.⁠

No would suggest this an easy thing to do. That's why marriage is hard and to do it right requires agape love (unconditional love) from The Father in heaven, the source of love itself.⁠

Honoring someone undeserving will change you.⁠
Honoring someone undeserving will move the needle with time.⁠
Honoring someone undeserving will honor the God who loved you even though you are undeserving as well ❤️⁠

How can you motivate or move your spouse in a direction you’d like to see them grow?
Well, we can’t MAKE our spouse change, but you are guaranteed to get a better result by praising the good then standing in a “high place” over them criticizing them!
Love is not boastful or proud. Criticism elevates you above someone else where you are observing and calling out their obvious faults. This will not help your cause, but alienate your spouse.
But LOVE covers weakness with its own strength. It hopes and believes for the best. It perseveres through the process. It is gentle in its assessment and delivery of the truth.

DON'T WAIT until it's EXTRA hard to repair your marriage! Recognize the drift and take action before there's an even bigger gap to repair.⁠

Proverbs 22:3 says "A prudent person ☠️ foresees danger ☠️ and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences."⁠

Marriage typically doesn't go from "I DO" to "I'm DONE" over night... If you know there's some separation sneaking in, do something about it now. It's a lot easier to make small adjustments along the way then to wait and discover you need a life overhaul to save things!⁠

Depending on your situation it could be as simple and small as:⁠
⁠
✔️ Reinstitution regular date night⁠
✔️ Putting down your phones and reconnecting to talk⁠
✔️ Restart doing little loving acts you once did⁠
✔️ Start a new practice of praying together regularly⁠
⁠
Or if your issues have already become a little bigger it might involve:⁠
⁠
☑️ Sitting down with a Pastor or counselor for some help⁠
☑️ Talking to a marriage coach⁠
⁠

DRIFT is never in your favor. No sailor ever just drifted on the waves, wind and currents and ended up on their desired destination. Usually drift will take you backwards instead!⁠

It is always evolving, slowly getting better or getting worse... never static.⁠
